This will most likely be my shortest post ever, mainly because there’s not much to be said about this phenomenon of 50 Shades of Gray. The way I feel about it, and the way I believe God feels about it, is pretty black and white. So, rather than droning on about what you already know, I’ll just let God speak for himself.
1 Peter 1:16 “Be holy as I am holy.”
This means holiness in many things, but included, certainly, is the fact that he does not want us to fill our minds with sexually immoral smut that casts us headlong into sin.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
And finally…
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.”
Guys, this is a no-brainer. But it can serve as a reminder. There are millions of people who will go see this movie. There are millions who have read this book. What that tells us is that there are millions of people who need Jesus. To me, it is a reminder to pray for them. So if you’re out somewhere and hear someone talking about the movie or the book, feel free to speak up and tell them the truth. The truth, but always in love.
Be blessed,
J
